The 1986 Listening Post - White Flag - Zero Hour

White Flag - Zero Hour

#594
1986 Housekeeping
White Flag
Zero Hour
Genre: TV Party Black Flag Worshipping Punk but also Wannabe Psychedelic Metal Sabbath Band but also Want to be fun in an early Van Halen sort of way and then sounds like 90s snot punk.
3.5 out of 5

Highlights:
Ditto Diego
Stone Alone (Listed incorrectly here as “Deuce” and isn’t on this record proper but, you’ll enjoy it anyway, what the hell)

Requisite 80s cover: “Question of Intelligence” which breaks into “Rollercoaster” for about 30 seconds and made me very happy.

It’s still 1981 for White Flag. This kind punk has lost it’s flavor like Juicy Fruit gum after 20 minutes. And, you know that annoying squeak you get from gum even before it’s lost it’s flavor that makes you hate it so that you alllllmost throw it out except you are waiting for the flavor to completely disappear?
That’s how this record starts off. But, then, it shifts.
They groove outside the punk idiom, like “Ditto Diego” they actually sound like a fun band, in the making and then “Stone Alone” is straight up 70s Zeppelin.
This record is a grower, not a shower.
