The 1986 Listening Post - 7 Seconds - New Wind

7 Seconds - New Wind

#575
December 4 1986
7 Seconds
New Wind
Genre: Melodic Punk
3.5 out of 5

Highlights:
Grown Apart

That first track…it’s….”New York City” by cub, then TMBG. I mean, it’s not but the melody line is so close I have to wonder if cub heard this record. Maybe it’s just coincidence.
I think 7 Seconds saw the writing on the wall. The coming punk sound will be melodic and sell bajillions of records and turn Billie Joe Armstrong and the Blink guys and The Offspring into millionaires.
But, someone’s gotta be the pioneer, right? Actually, at times this sounds like less hateful, more accessible Husker Du, drawing the strong line between Du and the sounds of the 90s.
