China Crisis - What Price Paradise

China Crisis
What Price Paradise
Genre: 80s SynthRock
4 out of 5

Highlights:
Arizona Sky

It’s 1986.
These bands are being shoved off the airwaves and I can’t help but wonder: In a couple years Nirvana will be blamed for killing hair metal, when we all know that what killed that genre was boredom, lack of originality, repetition and glut. And nothing, no genre, lasts more than a couple years of dominance.
So, what killed SynthPop? Indie? Like Violent Femmes? Maybe in your dorm room, but not on the radio. Jangle Pop? If we’ve learned anything its that the REM knockoff bands have not been able to make any inroads outside of Stipe and the boys. Rap hasn’t dominated yet.
Who would be blamed for the death of “New Wave”?
No one. Because there isn’t one galvanizing explosive record or sound (yet) to have fingers pointed at.
Maybe there will be, but history has not revealed that. Yet, this sound was ubiquitous for a short while, ala Duran Duran and others and then, poof, gone.
For the most part unmemorable.
This one is actually the best China Crisis has done. It’s totally easy to listen to in the background while you play Sorry with your 9 year old.
Which is how we did it.
