What is this thing? Is it jazz-rock noodling? Is it a jam band? I find myself alternately drawn into the meanderings and put off by the formlessness of it all.
I’ve never cared for the Hackett I’ve heard before. This isn’t changing my mind.
It’s all very epic and proggy but all that percussive bombast in, say, “Matilda Smith-Williams Home for the Aged” is much ado about not much. Is it so named in contrast to the music? This sounds like Matilda’s home for the rambunctious and energized.
Honestly, I’d rather listen to Buddy Hackett.
