Not since Utopia’s Deface the Music has anyone come this close to imitating John Lennon with such abandon. But that album was a purposeful homage, unlike this which is Lennon’s son masquerading as his own man.
If he happened to be bequeathed these songs by his father, they would still be mediocre but I can’t help but believe that if these tracks were on Milk & Honey, they would be hailed in some fashion.
They sound like John. He sounds like John. And the album is mediocre. But that single “Too Late For Goodbyes” is Sheryl Crowe’s and Michael Penn’s forebears.
