If Frith hadn’t hooked up with The Residents would his music ever be heard outside his little enclave? We will never know.
This is all experimentation. And I’ve often wondered how people listen to this.
Does one sit back and appreciate the instrumentation and found audio clips and nod and think, “Well done, Fred.” Or is it something that goes in the background while you work? Because as much as I enjoyed “Ahead in the Sand”, there’s no way that I would do the latter. It seems that Fred’s music is dedicated to making you nod and then, just as you are following along, he hard left turns a rhythm or instrumentation almost, it seems, to fuck with you.
Honestly, while I appreciate a lot of it, I just got bored.
