Genre: Low-Fi punk
2 out of 5
Highlights:
Much Too Old
This weirdo record sounds like a smart musician enlisted his friends to make a punk record, 5 years after the genre’s heyday. It’s like Television and Talking Heads had a baby and it became the house band at CBGB’s for a month’s residency.
Sometimes, though, it’s actually a neat little companion to Xex’s album but it’s more accomplished, musically, and Xex’s album sounds better even though they both sound like they were recorded for $10. Xex just spent that on the songs and Daevid Allen spent his on avoiding production quality.
I would have riffed on how my on-air radio persona was named “David Allen” when I had a weekend radio show, but I feel like that would be wasted on this album’s review page.
