The 80s don’t really start in 1980. You know that, right? I mean, the calendar doesn’t start at “0”, does it?
No.
The new millennium was 2000. It was 2001. Cuz you start with “1”.
Which is why, at the end of the 80s, when “Raging Bull” was named the Best Film of the 80s by magazines like Premiere (Which I adored, man. Those perforated movie cards!!!) it was a fallacy and everything we new about making lists was about to be incorrect for the rest of time.
As we became obsessed with “End of Decade!” lists, they are all incorrect. Any list from the 80s should NOT include any album from 1980.
But, that round number, it’s so enticing. It’s impossible to resist.
And that’s the problem with humans. We’re not really all that smart. We can’t resist temptation.
This record is a terrific lost relic of the 70s. It’s perfectly 1970s glam/power pop. It belongs on charts and playlists with Raspberries and The Sweet and The Records and 2020 and The Romantics and The Knack and all those terrific Roller Rink on a Saturday night bands. These tracks are the sounds of teen movies starring Kristy MacNichol and a young Matt Dillon. It’s pre-sarcasm of John Hughes and Matthew Broderick.
If I could listen to one genre for the rest of my life it would be this.
Alas, this is only available on YouTube. So, you might not wanna invest your time but, if you do, I bet you have a blast.
