I’m telling ya, there’s an entire Sirius or Pandora station or an ultimate playlist of Power Pop out there and it is lacking in about 80% of the catalog. 10 years after the Beatles called it quits there were more than enough bands that took what they learned from the fab four, worshipped at the feet of Cheap Trick and Big Star and were kin to The Knack & Costello and Squeeze and the like. The list is endless. We call it New Wave but it’s not new. We called it Skinny Tie rock. But that’s because we lost the ability to just enjoy songs with good melodies, excellent harmonies and a 3 or 4 piece that wore tight red pants and unleashed tighter 3.5 minute pop rock tracks.
Here’s The Heats.
They are from Seattle, of all Power Pop places. And they are excellent. If you want a good comparison from the same area: think Exploding Hearts. “Ordinary Girls” was the single but it’s probably the weakest track here.
Just one terrific Power Pop track after another. And another lost classic.
