Hang on a second. The opener “It’s Not My Fault”…this is Goo era Sonic Youth, no? Am I taking crazy pills? Also, “Frankie I’m Sorry”. Like Sonic Youth’s whole sound comes from this record.

Ok. So a few years before this I was in a car with the owner of that Day Camp and we had time to kill till she had to drop me off at home so she and her kids decided to play a game called “Follow That Car!”. “Follow that car until he makes a right turn and then make a right.” And then you’d establish a new rule for the next car and play that for a while and then eventually stop when you’re bored. That’s a song on this record!! Were OTHER people playing this bizarre stalker game??

True Story. When my wife and I were dating we played it. The car in front of us NEVER made the left turn. Is he just thought we were following him all over town. And then it got scary as he pulled over and got out to confront us.
Lesson: Do not play “Follow That Car”. The game. I liked the Post-punk scratchy guitar song.

From there this reminds me a surf punk version of Gone and that’s a great thing. This is the sound of a band that doesn’t give a shit what you think, they’re just gonna do what they do which is unlike what almost anyone else is doing. The rating should drop a bit for the tinny production but it’s elevated for the sheer audacity and breaking ground that this achieves.
