The 1980 Listening Post - Blue Peter - Radio Silence

Blue Peter - Radio Silence

#102
March 12 1980
Blue Peter
Radio Silence
Genre: Canadian Power Pop
4 out of 5

Highlights:
Attraction
Hesitate
Neon Girls

Why does the lead singer, who hails from Toronto, sound like Russell Mael but…less French? That makes no sense!! Blue Peter are perfectly edge-of-the-80s New Wave catchy like if The Cars were a Roxy Music cover band.
The songs are all nerdy and edgy and power poppy and I also love the production, which has that unmistakably indecipherable thing that makes Canadian rock work so well.
The 80s sound that we will come to associate with the decade is in full force here and, it’s really the first of it’s kind that we’ve come upon this year, predating Duran Duran and all the synth bands to come. “Shellshocked” is the kind of thing I would have expected to hear on Night Flight.
