The 1980 Listening Post - Harry Chapin - Sequel

Harry Chapin - Sequel

#90
March 1 1980
Harry Chapin
Sequel
Genre: Singer Songwriter
2 out of 5

“Sequel” does exactly what it sets out to do: It touches on the first song, “Taxi” and expands on the characters, while being fully reminiscent of that first song. And that’s fine. This is the kind of music that stopped breaking through, isn’t it? It is the cousin to The Stranger by Billy Joel. It’s Cat Stevens. (He also sounds a LOT like Neil Diamond…)
It’s bygone days. It’s  the soundtrack to a dawn party at the apartment of a waitress you just met and who doesn’t know your name but thought it was funny when you ate a flower at her table, so she invited you.
Does this sound familiar? I’ve written about it before. There’s a reason I called it back. Because just like that story, this record is a bit hazy and forgettable but but, once in a while, Harry’s voice brings you back to a long gone past that just doesn’t exist anymore.
Maybe it never did. .
