Yet another name checked band by X (“I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts”) that I never went back to investigate.
When you hear “punk” do you hear Ramones/Dead Kennedys/Minor Threat? Yeah, that’s what I normally clock to.
But there is also that other kind of punk. With the spaces between the notes. Like Minutemen. And that’s what this sounds like.
It’s funky, but decidedly diy. I could see them on a bill with Fishbone. Or Greg Ginn’s good project, Gone.
Put “Critical Condition” on a playlist with “Myself to Myself” by Romeo Void and then just hit repeat. But, in case you think they can’t do it…”Wise Up” shows they were just as adept at the razorblade punk sound as anyone else.
The facts we hate: Big Boys invented this sound and Red Hot Chili Peppers, a significantly inferior band, became gazillionaires.
