Before Damn Yankees and HSHG there was this supergroup? made up of Aerosmith and Nugent players. And what we get is pretty standard Sammy Hagar Boogie Rock.
We all know that this sound is about to become the dominant force in rock radio and, for those new to this group, we also know that I like a good guitar slinging stadium turn as much as the next guy.
A couple years ago, before he died, Brian Howe put out an excellent jam in this style, “Hot Tin Roof”. It’s been on my go to rawk playlist ever since. There are a couple tracks here that will go on that list as well. Like “It Takes Two” and “Sharpshooter” and “Action”.
People decry this as pedestrian corporate rock but it’s just a genre. The kind that sells beer and t-shirts. And “Action” and “Shy Away” belong on an 80s soundtrack. I guarantee you Johnny Lawrence had this album on cassette in his Dodge Challenger.
This hits me in all the right places.
This album is the second half of Reunion: https://music.apple.com/us/album/reunion-bonus-disc-version/1111390652
