The 1981 Listening Post - The Alley Cats - Nightmare Alley

The Alley Cats - Nightmare City

#259

1981 Housekeeping

The Alley Cats

Nightmare City

Genre: LA Punk

3.25 out of 5

Highlights:

One More Chance to Survive

Give Me a Little Pain

Sounding like a hybrid of 45 Grave and Generation X, this LA Band must be known by a few of the Listening Post. Co-horts, but not me.

Like X the male and female singers trade off here. But Diane Chai is no Exene Cervenka and Randy Stodola isn’t John Doe. By that I mean they don’t have any trade off that gives them a signature. That said, Randy has a razorblade of a guitar and some terrific tone.

At times it’s more Glam than punk, “One More Chance to Survive” sounds more like a band that loves KISS than X.

Ok, that’s a lot of similes. I’ll stop for now.

How are the songs?

Not great. And Randy is not a great singer. Nothing memorable and nothing terrible.
