The 1980 Listening Post - GG Allin - Alwas Was, Always Is and Always Shall Be

GG Allin - Alwas Was, Always Is and Always Shall Be

#351

September 1980
GG Allin
Always Was, Is and Always Shall Be
Genre: Iggyless Stooges
2.5 out of 5

Highlights:
Unpredictable

If David Peel was myopic about his contempt for Disco (and, as the stand-in for, homosexuality) G.G. has his hate sights on women. He seems to hate them with a contempt that makes Bloodhound Gang’s misogyny seem tame, in comparison.
Truth is, GG hates everybody.
I don’t want to waste a story so I’ll just say that the only nihilistic singer I’ve encountered who has as little nuance but as much self assured swagger is a guy named Kory Clarke who fronted a band called Warrior Soul.
I’m not telling the Warrior Soul story here. I’ll save it. It’s not great. But it’s fun. And GG doesn’t deserve the time.
However, GG has never sounded better than he does on “I Need Adventure”, he makes the song almost ok. If it is really just a plea for someone to fellate him. “Unpredictable” predates Pop Punk by a couple decades and reminds me of B9. Like, a lot.
The band here, while poorly produced and sounds tinny, also calls to mind Fun House era Stooges. So, there’s that.
This is the exact record I would expect from a suitcase pimp in 1980.
Oh, and David Peel produced this album so…no surprise. Hate hangs out with hate.
