Requisite 80s cover:
“Sun Arise”, an early 60s hit in Australia. How this got halfway around the world into the ears of these kids 25 years later has got to be a story unto itself.
John Lennon’s Plastic Ono Band song, “Cold Turkey”. Perfectly fine, in fact, it holds the spirit of that project pretty well.
This is just rock and roll, baby. Traces of all sorts of early influenced music without ever being a nostalgia grab. It’s hard to pigeonhole because it flirts with Rockabilly and Ska Garage and all other forms of early rock and roll but the snarl is decidedly punky and snotty.
This might have been the surprise of the year if I found it back then.
