I lived in LA in the 80s. It so badly wanted the world to think it was smooth synth jazz with DayGlo colors and wet streets.
Parts of it was. But the image it wanted to present was exactly this. Lifeless but self important. Apt but also tone deaf.
This is sockless shoes and beltrami pants. White shirts open to the naval and white sunglasses.
Sexy but sexless. Believe it or not, this is toothless Sparks.
And when it’s instrumental it becomes pale Tangerine Dream.
