The 1980 Listening Post - Monroe - Censured

 1980 Housekeeping

Monroe

Censured

Genre: Garage Rock

3.25 out of 5

Highlights:

Belinda

Winner’s Side

Maple Court Special

3 or 4 people.

Distorted amps.

1-4-5  or 1-4-6-5 or some combo of those.

No jazz theory. No myxolidian or any other modes.

Rudimentary lead lines.

It’s a tale as old as Berry.

Get in the garage, play that riff, come up with lyrics, sound as close to the Stones and New York Dolls as you can.

There are probably 100-300 records like this produced every year on every micro label.

The Sweet Things are the new version of this. I like The Sweet Things. I would probably buy their record, but I keep forgetting to.

And that just about sums this band up. Forgettable Power Pop/Garage Rock from Switzerland.

I did enjoy the roots rock/alt country of “Winner’s Side”, the most, however. And both of those, as well as “Maple Court Special” were written by Ceaser Perrig, so I guess I prefer his version of Monroe to the other members’.
