The 1981 Listening Post - Jackpot - Full House

 Reviewed by MacArthur Antigua

Released: 1981 Jackpot Full House Genre: Kraut Metall Rating: 2 out of 5 Highlights: What Do You Mean If we played “word association” and you gave me “German” and “Hard Rock”, then I’d say, “Scorpions.” However, with regards to capability there’s no reason why I couldn’t cite fellow Kraut-rockers “Jackpot,” as they got the chops. While they are a bit ponderous on the first track “Perfect Society”, the album really kicks off on “What Do You Mean,” a stellar attempt to ape KISS with its rambling drums, searing guitar licks and singsong backup vocals. Unfortunately, Jackpot kill the momentum on “Everyday the Same” by hauling out the acoustic guitars and try to go all “Silent Lucidity”/Queensryche on us. “Luxury” brings us back with a mid-tempo strut, showing off the robust guitar phalanx of Peter Kah, Lothar Kempf and bassist Blacky Winter. However by this time, I was losing interest. Jackpot wants to show that they’ve got multitudes, but Full House is bland in all the right places to keep it relegated to the afterthought of history. Round two of word association for “Jackpot’s Full House?” Adequate, serviceable.
