Released: 1981 The Quick (AU) On The Uptake Genre: New Wave Post-Disco Rating: 1.5 out of 5 Get it? Quick. On The Uptake. Quick on the uptake? Hilarious! Anyway, raise your hand if you are of an age that you remember trips to the mall to shop at Chess King or Merry Go Round for the latest in neon colored, angular fashion. I wore my fair share of fluorescent, color-block, patchwork, New Wave shit in my day. It was a brief period - but oh, how brightly it burned. And then it fizzled. And none of that shit has come back in fashion. And it’s pretty embarrassing to look back on it today. That’s this album. Fluorescent, angular synth-y New Wave Post-Disco with patchwork ramblings about young men driving too fast, depending on Katy (who ultimately let's you down), and a song that makes the bold, bright statement - Sharks are Cool, Jets are Hot. There's a reason both Chess King and Merry Go Round eventually filed for bankruptcy.
