Released: 1981 Jools Holland And His Millionaires Jools Holland And His Millionaires Genre: Pop Rating: 2 out of 5 Highlights: Dynaflow Bumble Boogie As recording artists go, based on this record, Jools was better served being the host of a musical jamboree show. Of course, that is what happened to him and I’m just being cheeky, but that lame joke contains more charm and humor and cheekiness than anything on this nearly dreadful offering of hook-less pop drivel by the guy who we all expected to be the break out star from the rapidly disintegrating Squeeze. Jools is no songwriter, at least when compared to his old bandmates. And that’s weird because not only do Difford & Tilbrook write the opener, but Chris co-writes a bunch of stuff here and it’s all uninteresting and rote. Is there good boogie woogie piano playing? Ummm…sure. I can get that from myriad rock and roll records with better tunes and a less annoying vocalist.
