So, the Golden Globe awards are done. Much of it was sad. Ricky Gervais thought it was a roast. Michelle Pfeiffer reminded us that growing old gracefully is not done in Hollywood and Robert DeNiro sure got over his legendary shyness by turning into Shecky Greene.
Mark Wahlberg seems above it all and David Fincher has anhedonia.
But, more importantly, did any of the Oscar pics change for me?
Yes. A little.
Best Picture race: This is The Social Network's to lose. After the juggernaut that was tonight, I'm not sure it can. I'm putting it at 80% to win, 18% for The King's Speech and 2% for The Kids Are All Right.
Best Actor Race: Colin Firth just solidified his win. It will be a lonely cold win for The King's Speech, if tonight was any indication.
Best Actress Race: I still thin it's Annette vs Natalie, but Portman has such a rush of momentum and she's preggers. Its a Lock.
Best Supporting Actor Race: Is anyone going to stand between Christian Bale and his Oscar?
Best Supporting Actress: Melissa Leo's win notwithstanding, I still think Hailee Steinfeld will be nominated in this category and will win.
Best Adapted Screenplay Race: It's Aaron Sorkin's prom night.
Best Original Screenplay Race: This is still a total toss up for me. Seidler is ancient and should atone for "Come on Get Happy; The Partridge Family Story" but we all have to pay rent. Meanwhile, Cholodenko was sunbbed by a preening producer who took too much stage time. 50-50.
Best Director Race: Fincher. He will bring artistic diaspora to a gleeful evening of Sorkin and Rudin.
It's all about The Social Network. That is, right now.
