The 1981 Listening Post - Grinder Switch - Have Band Will Travel

Reviewed by Tom "Tommy Dean" Mott

Released: 1981 Grinder Switch Have Band Will Travel Genre: Southern Rock Rating: 2.75 out of 5 Highlights: One Hour Into Sunday Whooboy, Grinder Switch slipped me a Mickey. [1] That first track opens with a great, gritty riff that got me expecting some Motor City mayhem. But then came some flim-flam, and when I came to, we were truckin' on down the highway 'bout to cross the county line near Macon. It ain't the Allmans, closer to Marshall Tucker, or Clapton's lightweight 70s southern pop, or the Allman Brothers roadie and guitar tech. Which this is. Grinder Switch was put together by Allman Brothers roadie and guitar tech Joe Dan Petty. There's some southern charm here and there, and splashes of Memphis horns, but overall it's a bowl of tepid, cold grits. ********** 1. They slipped me a Mickey Gilley!
