Just what the fuck is going on?
I'm sure you've heard about the Rubinoos' lawsuit against Avril Lavigne? Whether it be by "accident" or a direct lift (and if chantal Kreviazuk has anything to say about it, I would say it's the latter), Avril's song "Girlfriend" sounds awfully like The Rubinoos' "I wanna be your boyfriend". You can check out the comparison here: http://www.rubinoos.com/
But, how about this:
One of my favorite songs of the late 70's new wave movement is The Boomtown Rats' "Diamond Smiles", the acoustic version can be watched below.
Now, got a sec? Go to www.myspace.com/abrokeheartpro and listen to A Brokeheart Pro's song Kitten Next Door. The TITLE TUNE FROM THEIR ALBUM!!! Um.....what the fuck? Seriously. WHAT THE FUCK? Tell me they are not the exact same song. Well, okay, you can hear subtle differences, but that's only because the Geldof version I found is live. The recorded version on "Fine Art of Surfacing" is almost note for note.....
To continue on this theme.....
Has anyone else noticed the similarities between:
and
Listen to the basslines, for god's sakes!
Someone tell me just what the fuck is going on? everyone steals, I know. Roger Waters famously showed how one of his songs was based on a very famous blues riff (I can't remember either song, but I saw the clip on VH1, it's true....damned coffee brain). Everyone "borrows", but this is so weirdly blatant. Did everyone just run out of ideas at the same time?????? When Vanilla Ice stole the bassline from Under Pressure, he made Queen rich(er) and Led Zeppelin (FINALLY) had to give credit to...who was it, Willie Dixon and Robert Johnson, right? Okay, isn't it time to hold these kids' feet to the flame!?!?
HOLD THE PHONE
at about 29 seconds into this video.....are those a pair of white leather shoes keeping time????? And again at around 3:10. In this original and alt version of the video.
I feel like crying.
