Roger Powell
Air Pocket
Genre: Jarreing
2.25 out of 5
Like Alan Parsons before him, Powell started off as an engineer who put out his own stuff.
Unlike Parsons, Powell also played keyboards in one of the most interesting projects to come out of the era: Utopia.
Having his musical inclinations indulged by Rundgren here starts off promising but, dammit, then there’s words and singing.
And, before you ask, no, “Sands of Arrakis” do not redeem this thing. In fact, I feel pandered to.
Powell’s later career has been as a computer programmer for Apple and EA. And that’s what this record sounds like.
